Smoke And CO Certificate

Appointment Requests for a Smoke & Carbon Monoxide (C.O.) certificate for selling a residence can be obtained by calling (401) 295-3173 ext. 5511. These inspections are typically done on Wednesdays. PLEASE NOTE: appointments are not made via email, nor does Exeter Fire participate in the OpenGov on-line permitting process for smoke/CO certificates. In accordance with R.I. State Law, the local fire authority that performs smoke and carbon monoxide alarm inspections in all residential occupancies shall, at the time of the inspection, assess a thirty-dollar ($30.00). A sixty dollar ($60.00) fee for the re-inspection due to improper installation, wrong location, improper wiring method, or the seller’s failure to maintain a mutually agreed upon appointment will be charged. Checks can be made out to Exeter #1 V.F.D. (we are not an entity of the Town of Exeter, therefore checks made out to the Town of Exeter cannot be cashed by us). The responsibility of this fee will be borne by the seller on each occurrence before title to the property is transferred.
